Frederico Rabelo is Brazilian, born in Minas Gerais in 1990. From childhood, his interest for drawing was remarkable. As a young teen Frederico starts doing graffiti and pixação, and in 2005 founds Base Crew with four friends. At nineteen his pursuit of a visual arts degree begins, studying in Brazil and Portugal. Meanwhile, his artworks start to develop through paintings, looking toward a professional career. During his college years he founds Covil Tattoo studio with two other friends and starts his journey into Tattooing.
Currently Frederico has ambitious projects in progress, involving art, culture and knowledge, nurtured by the concept that contemporary tattooing must harbor intelligence and produce culture.
Frederico has been working in YE ARE GODS season, in which he basically selects the projects that are going to be tattooed, designing themes and placements for the body. This represents an enormous change in tattooing modus operandi, giving the artist full autonomy over the project. This season’s content seeks to investigate part of human history and culture with the crucifixion of Christ as a starting point. Ye Are Gods is also about transforming nature’s timeless beauty and landscapes into body art.
According to Frederico, “to Be is necessary in order to create new perspectives as an artist. For me, art is the transforming agent, and a way to create relevance and interest for others, by also becoming a more interesting artist. This deep dive into human history proposed in Ye Are Gods is an attempt to understand the things that made us who we are and brought us to the evolutionary step we currently fulfill. With this understanding I propose new perspectives on Being to building our existences through progress.”
Frederico is one of the main exponents in Brazilian contemporary tattooing and has been gaining notoriety worldwide, especially in Europe and the United States.
