J-Luis viewed his art as a hobby. It was a pleasurable pastime, however not a main focus. Unlike many of his Peruvian brethren, he did not grow up in an artistic environment and in Perú as art is not an easy passion to follow. At the age of 20, he started studying Graphic Design, which naturally allowed for like-minded friends and peers who encouraged Jorge to absorb himself in different modalities and art styles. His curiosity led him to tattooing; a process that was starting to become popular in Peru.
As the popularity of tattooing grew, so did Jorge’s interest and involvement. His persona and art style had generated buzz within the Tattoo culture and circles in Lima. This spurred him to grow his technique and ethic into becoming quite notorious within the tattoo scene in Perú. After working downtown for 3 years he started participating in tattoo conventions where he was awarded first place in styles like old school, traditional, neo traditional, and fine line.
Jorge’s particular style of solid colors and vector style tattoos made him one of the best at this style in Perú. His impeccable work caught the attention of Zhimpa Moreno who then invited Jorge to join Zhimpa Tattoos. Jorge worked for another 3 years at the studio while amassing awards at local conventions before he was invited to join InkNation Studio as a resident artist.
