Miguel Manrique A.K.A Murino is a Peruvian tattoo artist, natural from the city of Arequipa, Peru.
He specializes in Japanese-inspired tattoos mixed with his personal vision. This unique style is the consequence of all the comics and cartoons that he has drawn since very young.
Miguel’s artistic career started after school when he joined a local University in Arequipa, where he studied Advertising and graphic design. Shortly after graduating, he started working for a graphic design agency that needed his art for different kinds of projects. However, he wanted to keep growing, which led him to the School of Visual Arts in NYC where he studied Illustration. During those years he worked as a freelancer and Editorial Illustrator. In his freelancer experience he joined an artist collective brand of clothing, through them he could produce his own designs and make his art known. But Miguel needed something else, another form of expression.
Since he was young, he was always attracted to cartoons and anime which introduce him to Japanese culture and their traditions, one of them Japanese tattoos. By the time he was living in NYC he found some of his favorite artists in the city that would eventually tattoo him too. This form of art started growing on him and would become a new path on his pursuit of expanding his vision.
Years later Miguel found out that Zhimpa, a Peruvian artist he admired since before, started together with Darwin a tattoo studio in NYC, InkNation Studio NYC. He decided to go to them and apply as an apprentice. Zhimpa and Darwin saw in him the talent, resolution and dedication needed to be a successful tattoo artist and they did not doubt to welcome him to the team.
Now Miguel is part of our team of resident artists, with an impressive growth and knowledge we are very glad to have him in our team.
Miguel’s particular style mixes pop culture and folklore elements to create epic characters and hybrid creatures, a combination that allows the viewers multiple readings of the same image.
